Prisma Health broke ground this week on a new primary care practice in Fountain Inn near Interstate 385.

The approximately $9 million project is the first Prisma Health medical practice in the Fountain Inn area and will offer comprehensive primary care services for both adults and children, according to a news release.

The staff at Prisma Health Primary Care-Fountain Inn began seeing patients in a temporary location on Wednesday.

Site preparation on the permanent facility is already under way, with construction on the nearly 15,000-square-foot facility expected to be completed in mid-2022, the release said. The office will have 24 exam rooms, radiology services and a laboratory. Once fully operational, the practice will be staffed by up to 10 providers.

“At Prisma Health, we consider excellent accessible primary care to be critical to creating healthy communities,” Dr. Scott Sasser, who leads Prisma Health’s medical group, said in the release. “This new facility will give us the capacity to provide comprehensive care for this growing area for years to come.”

The practice will be led by Dr. Jeremy Byrd, a long-time internal medicine/pediatrics provider based in the Golden Strip area, which includes Simpsonville, Mauldin and Fountain Inn.

“I am thrilled to help bring this practice to the Fountain Inn community and to the many families I’ve had the privilege to serve over the past 12 years,” Byrd said in the release. “This will be a unique practice where our providers come from several different specialties — including family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics — to serve the family. We want this practice to be a medical home for the residents of Fountain Inn and its neighboring communities.”

The practice is located at 200 N. Nelson Dr., Fountain Inn.

Prisma Health is the largest health care system in the state and has more than 300 outpatient sites, the release said.
