Dorchester County has completed a 75,000-square-foot pad-ready industrial site at the Winding Woods Commerce Park in St. George.
The county says it is a milestone that marks a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to attract and support business growth and economic development in the region.
With the support and collaboration of the Dorchester Economic Development Corp. the Dorchester County Legislative delegation, the SC PowerTeam, and Edisto Electric Cooperative, funding was secured to prepare the 14-acre site for immediate development, according to a news release from Dorchester County Economic Development. State dollars combined with additional funding from the SC PowerTeam’s Site Fund were utilized to transform the property into a shovel-ready industrial site.
The pad-ready site is now available for occupancy, offering a strategic location with proximity to Interstates 95 and 26 as well as two major seaports, the release said.
“Pad-ready sites are the cornerstone of economic development, offering businesses a streamlined path to success,” Edisto Electric Cooperative President David Felkel said in the release. “With infrastructure in place and strategic locations, these sites empower businesses to swiftly establish themselves and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities.”
The site at Winding Woods has all major utilities in place with water, sewer, electricity, telecom, and natural gas service available.
“We are thrilled to see the completion of this pad-ready site, which represents a significant step in our efforts to attract businesses to Dorchester County,” John Truluck, director of Economic Development for Dorchester County, said in the release. “A pad-ready site can significantly shorten the window which prospective companies need to complete construction and ultimately begin production. This site offers a prime location and infrastructure-ready environment, making it an ideal choice for companies looking to invest and grow in our community.”
Todd Friddle, chairman of Dorchester County Council, emphasized the potential impact of the new site, stating in the news release: “Dorchester County recognizes the significance of sites like this for our community’s continued economic growth. This site will attract businesses and create opportunities for job creation, further propelling our county forward.”
State Rep. Chris Murphy said the site was a collaborative effort.
“The completion of this pad-ready industrial site is a testament to the strength of partnerships between local government and the local legislative delegation,” he said in the release. “I am proud to have played a role in securing funding to support this initiative, which will undoubtedly contribute to the economic vitality of Dorchester County.”
